Ganga Aarti Ganga Aarti is a religious prayer that takes place at the bank of the sacred river Ganga at the Har Ki Pauri ghat in Haridwar. Bringing in tourists and devotees from all over the world, it is a ritual of light and sound where the priests perform prayers with bowls of fire and the ringing of the temple bells. Visitors float "diyas" (small candles) and flowers, surrounded by the chanting of the mantras and the reflection of the lights off the surface of the flowing river, which is said to be blessed by the Goddess Ganga. Built in the year 1929 by the then king of Kashmir, it is believed that this temple has existed in one form or the other since the 8th century. This is a very famous pilgrimage and gathers devotees all around the year. Chandi temple is also known as Neel Parvat Teerth is one of the five pilgrimages of Haridwar. It is also known as Siddha Peetha, a place where devotees worship to fulfil their desire. Because of its location, the Chandi Devi temple is also a preferred choice for trekking tourists. Daksh Mahadev Temple A famous temple in Kankhal, Haridwar Daksha Mahadev Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple becomes a centre of attraction in the month of Sawan when all the devotees flock to the temple to worship. Bharat Mandir Founded by Adiguru Shankaracharya in 12th century, the shrine houses Lord Vishnu carved out of a single piece of Saligram. The inner canopy of the temple contains Shree Yanthra. The architecture and interiors of the temple has been detailed in the ancient record of Kearkhand. The present structure was reconstructed on the ruins of the original temple destroyed by Tamur. Excavations have yeilded many old statues, ancient pots and coins from this site. Shanti Kunj Shantikunj was established in 1971 as the headquarters of the social and spiritual organization All World Gayatri Pariwar (AWGP). The massive ashrams attracts thousands of pilgrims seeking spirituality and encourages meditation and world peace. The organization also served as the global centre for Yug Nirman Yojana (Movement for the Reconstruction of the Era). Triveni Ghat Situated on the banks of the holy river Ganges, Triveni Ghat, as per its name, is the spot of the confluence of the three sacred rivers- Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. These rivers are considered extraordinarily pious and pure in the Hindu religion and are celebrated by every follower of this faith. It is believed that a dip in the holy waters by Triveni Ghat can purify you and cleanse you of all sins, worries and fears. Many followers of the Hindu religion believe in the magical powers of these waters. Lakshman Jhula The Lakshman Jhula is a famous hanging bridge across the river Ganga that connects two villages, Tapovan in the Tehri Garhwal district and Jonk in the Pauri Garhwal district. Located 5 kilometres to the northeast of the town Rishikesh in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, the entire bridge is made up of iron, is 450 feet long and is situated at the height of 70 feet from the river. The Lakshman Jhula is extremely well known amongst tourists because of the rich mythological associations that are connected with the bridge. It is widely believed that Lord Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, had crossed the river Ganga at this same site, where the bridge now majestically stands for all to see. The most famous attraction in Mussoorie, Gun Hill is the second highest peak of Mussoorie. Gun Hill offers an enchanting view of some of the highest Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri group. Lal Tibba Situated in the Landour area at an altitude of 8000 metre above the sea level, Lal Tibba is the highest point in Mussoorie. Lal Tibba is the oldest populated place in Mussoorie and boasts of scenic views of sunrise and sunset, which leave the visitors spell bound. Lal Tibba also referred as a Depot Hill owing to the presence of a depot, also houses a camp of the Indian Military services, towers of Doordarshan and All India Radio. A Japanese telescope was placed at the 20 metres tall tower standing on the edge of the cliff to offer scenic views of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Banderpunch, and other Himalayan ranges. Jharipani Jharipani Falls is situated near the village of Jharipani, which is at a distance of around 7 km from the town of Mussoorie. This fall is one of the beautiful places, ideal for picnic, nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. The site offers a beautiful view of Shivalik range from Jharipani village to the tourists. The surroundings of the falls are adorned with various species of wild flowers, creepers, shrubs and plants, which grow on the mountainous rocks on its sides.
